Background

St. Vincent and the Grenadines is a nation located in the southern part of the Eastern Caribbean Sea, consisting of St. Vincent and a chain of smaller islands called the Grenadines. The population is diverse, with influences from African, European, and indigenous Carib people. The cuisine reflects Caribbean culinary traditions, featuring seafood, tropical fruits, and locally grown vegetables. Additionally, calypso, soca and reggae music play an integral role in the island's culture. The islands celebrate various festivals and events, including the Vincy Mas Carnival and Nine morning festival. The Culture Sector drive is to celebrate, promote and preserve the cultural heritage for years to come through youth involvement.

Mission

To advocate for the preservation, promotion, and appreciation of our rich cultural heritage among the youth, fostering a sense of belonging and unity, while actively engaging in initiatives that harness the power of culture to drive positive change.

Objectives

  1. To safeguard and promote our cultural heritage, traditions, and practices, ensuring they are passed down to future generations.
  2. To collaborate with other cultural events, workshops, and educational programs that showcase our cultural identity.
  3. To empower the youth participating in cultural activities, aid as a form of support for their active participation by standardising payment procurements and timeframes.
  4. To create platforms for intercultural dialogue, where the youth can learn about and appreciate different cultural backgrounds.
  5. To leverage the diaspora and advocate for the investment in cultural initiatives that benefit youth.

Scope of Service:

The specific objectives are as follows:

Conduct, in consultation with all relevant stakeholders a Culture sector readiness assessment for the development of the Culture sector, determine the most sustainable and effective approach for the implementation of recommendations to drive the sector within St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

  1. The assessment should include an evaluation of the cultural aspects, traditions, and practices within SVG and make recommendations inclusive of policy to preserve and enhance the same.
  2. The assessment should build capacity within the Culture Sector, inclusive of but not limited to, marketing, skills, the media, monetization and make recommendations for information sharing and collaboration.
  3. The assessment should explore the possibility of standardizing payments within the sector and collaborations within the diaspora for possible funding.
