Diaspora

Background

The diaspora plays an important role in shaping strategies, programs, and initiatives to further economic development. Most may see the diaspora for the purposes of remittances, but the role of the diaspora surpasses that where the diaspora provides a gateway to markets for local produce, business and entrepreneurship, collaboration, investments, and skills. It is the goal of this sector to engage and incorporate the members of the diaspora in crafting initiatives targeted towards greater levels of economic development and growth.

Vision

Create a dynamic, engaged, and interconnected global community of young diaspora members, who actively contribute to the development and well-being of St. Vincent and the Grenadines and diasporic communities.

Mission

To actively engage and empower young members of the diasporic community for the betterment of St. Vincent and the Grenadines and the diaspora itself.

Objectives

  1. To enhance the involvement and contributions of the diaspora youth in various areas including economic development, social initiative, and cultural exchange.
  2. To advocate for the specific needs, rights, and interests of the youth within the diaspora community and foster a sense of belonging to ensure that their voices are heard and considered in policy making.
  3. Facilitate networking and collaboration among youth diaspora members to share ideas, resources and expertise for the benefit of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
  4. Recommend effective communication channels and platforms to keep diaspora youth informed.

Scope of Services:

The specific objectives are as follows:

Conduct, in consultation with all relevant stakeholders (RIDU, Foreign Affairs etc.) a Diaspora Sector readiness assessment for the development of the Diaspora Sector in line with regional and international best practices and frameworks, determine the most sustainable and effective approach for the implementation of recommendations to drive the sector within St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

  1. The assessment should include a review of the current communication channels and platforms, while providing recommendations to enhance and improve communication levels, trade facilitation, remittances, knowledge transfer, training, tourism, entrepreneurship, and investment.
  2. The assessment should identify areas for collaboration between the diaspora and pave the way for the same through policy and cross border relationships to foster deeper relationships.
