Background

With the ever-changing media landscape and the increase usage of the different forms of media by the youth, the main aim of the media sector is to advance Vincentian youth through use of the media. In the past traditional media such as newspapers and print media dominated, however society has shifted, although not completely, towards digital media. Digital media lends itself to a wider audience, allows for further monetization, analysis and enhanced decision-making given insights. To this end, digital media is definitely beneficial but must also be executed within the legal framework.

Mission

Empowering the youth to leverage varying forms of media, develop, create and publish content thereby boosting financial prosperity while maintaining integrity and privacy. 

Objectives

  1. To improve the media and digital literacy among the youth.
  2. To advocate for policies and guidelines to help the youth garner income from the use of different social media platforms.
  3. To use the varying forms of media to keep the youth abreast of various developmental policies and Government initiatives. 

Scope of Services:

The specific objectives are as follows:

Conduct, in consultation with all relevant stakeholders (Media Houses, NTRC, CED.) a Media Sector readiness assessment for the development of the Media Sector in line with regional and international best practices and frameworks, determine the most sustainable and effective approach for the implementation of recommendations to drive the sector within St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

  1. The assessment should include an evaluation of the level of skills within society, the gaps and provide recommendations to build capacity given the available local facilities.
  2. The assessment should include a review of current policies and legislation pertaining to the media, intellectual property and make recommendations for amendments and updates.
  3. The assessment should include an evaluation of the varying forms of media, purposes, radio operations, use cases, digital marketing, monetization, and best practices.
  4. The publishing of media content relating to the Council, Government and the youth within the local community and diaspora.
